Soil Moisture Readings
Since soil types can differ it can be hard to state a specific number to tell other growers to target and what may be ideal in one soil type may not translate to another. So, no matter the system that a grower selects to use it is very important for the grower to correlate those numbers with a physical soil dig and feel.
While it can be nice to have numbers on a screen the overall plant growing area needs to be taken into consideration and simply hitting a “number” may make the grower feel good, but may not be the best condition for the plant.
It can also be interesting to see a comparison of the older plant material to the newer portion of the patch. Having drip tapes with each on a separate valve which does allow the grower to better regulate irrigation to the plant to better dial in the soil moisture based on the uptake efficiencies of different potions of the plant. The moisture meters help provide a quick and unbiased evaluation to help make an informed decision by the grower.
