alright, I need yalls help. I want to know how i should prune my vines to get the results that i want. I have heard many ppl say they use the x-mas tree pattern, so i know that has to be a good method. But i want ur help on the lengths of the vines and the area of the plant. Some ppl say that ur 2ndaries should be 6 feet.. others say 8-12... some say 12-15. I haven't heard the main vine disputed over much.. pretty close to everyone says 25-30 feet. And i haven't saw too many arguments over the area of the plant. Yall say 900 sq feet is about the best size. I know some bigguns have been grown in a lot smaller areas than that... but i want to know how much space on average a biggun takes up(1 to a plant)... Now to get 900 sq feet i would have to use the 30 foot main and the 15 foot sec. ....... For me the space and planting area is not a problem. I want to know how big to let my plant get to maximize the fruit size. I am not saying that the longer methods (vine-wise) r any better than the shorter methods.... i just want to know which i would have the best chance of growing my BIG PUMPKIN with.
Thank yall so much, Justin

Justin-
if you ask 10 growers you'd probably get 10 different answers. much of what people do is determined by the shape of thier patch. but that it not a problem for you. I think you are fine with 30 ft main and 15 ft secondaries. not to long ago we all thought that the ideal plant size was 1500-2000 sq ft. so things change and will continue to do so. good luck !

Hello - everyone, This will be my second attemt at growing Giant pumpkins. Last year the deer won! So this year I'll be putting up a fence, around my pumpkin patch, using predetor urine, and any other voodoo trick I can find. Any suggestions? Along with planting Giant pumpkins, I'm going to plant Giant watermelons, and Collings long gourds. I need your help!! Have never planted long gourds before, any informations you can share, would be so helpful.. Here in Iowa, a major snow storm in the forecast, for the next couple of days. One can only dream of pumpkins, and Spring! Thanks, Judy
