Hello all. I just ordered some of the seeds from the site and just wanted some advice on germinating them. I've tried pumpkins before and couldn't even get them started. I planted them directly outside at the end of May when everything else gets started in my area. I'm in CT. I use a natural seed starter for some more difficult seeds I grow and was wondering if I should start them indoors with that and then transplant. What do you think? I bought some connecticut field pumpkins to try before I try the BIG ONE. LOL. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also, are there books at the library that tell me this stuff? Can you recommend any? And how long do the vines get before they make a blossom? Can I trim it shorter? I mean to just past my pumpkin, if I get one? Ok, enough for one posts. Miss S

Sebrina, I think the best advice I could offer you is to read the information on this site. Go to main menu and click on the How to section, Grower diaries, links, and message board sections and read posts which have been posted by other growers. Im sure you will find the answer to your question. I have learned alot by doing this. Good luck in the spring. Bill lv107

you've already planned on doing one of the most important things a new grower can when it comes to starting seeds, and that's to practice on junk seeds first. even though i've been growing for years, i always start a few scrap seeds a week or 2 before the good ones, just to make sure things are germinating smoothly. some of these seeds are too hard to come by to accidently rot because your conditions weren't right.
