On all my 572 Bosworth pumpkins about 1/4 of the pumpkin starting at the stem looks like it quits growing and the other 3/4 of the pumpkin continues to grow, It almost looks like the stem end was put in a oven,looks shrunken But the other part of the pumpkin grows normal. What do you think causes this?

Pollination problems...My daughter has a pumpkin called "Gary the Snail" I tnink it looks nore like a brain.

Shannon, will the "Pollination problem" affect anything else besides shape? I also have an odd shape one going. Any way to describe what the problem with pollination was? I am looking for any info so I can hopefully avoid the problem next year! Thanks for any help. Peace Wayne

Shannon, thats exactly what it looks like is a brain, only 1/4 of the pumpkin near the stem end grow like this,the other half tward the blossom end is normal,I have had about 10 fruit set that didnt abort on this plant and thats including mostly all open pollinations and every pumpkin had the half brain look on half the pumpkin.. Im not training the vines im just letting it run wild. Maybe because I tested everything on this plant first before I put it on my my other plants maybe? No, that cant be it because I had a few set before I made it my lab rat plant and it did the same thing, its lacking something i just dont know what.

I have had 3 pollinations that look like that. One morning I went out and one had split wide open. I have never had so much trouble getting a set. I think it's the hot weather. I have been getting odd shapes also. One set I used ice packs and covered with a cooler, it took and looks fine while 4 other pollinations on the same day without special treatment have aborted or look weird.
