hi everyone as i type this i am at my brother in laws why becase my puter is crashed! i received this virus about a week or so ago and now i have nothing left to puter,virous was as follows c:/documents and settings/owner/local/settings/temp/ex download/empthology install exc trojan horse,it started off not allowing me to type keyboard wouldnt work then mouse wouldnt work then either or wouldnt work now puter wont even start so i got the big question do i take it to the compost pile or is there any hope please if anybody has ideas email me or heck call me my number is 304-335-0858 or 642-3102 i miss being able to chatt post pics or heck just check out the site! please help if ya can thanks everybody burrhead

Sory bro been really busy, I'll be away all day today (Sunday), but I'll call Monday the 22nd, dont throw the puter away bro, format and start new.

formating will not rid your PC of viruses. in some cases it will but most cases it will not....Ryan

Hey Keith,
Did you spell the name of that virus correctly? I can't find it anywhere. Normally a Trojan Horse is a non-destructive virus. Notice that I said "normally". Most Trojans are associated with spyware, not malware. In any case there may still be a chance to save the data on the hard drive and recover the computer. In many cases it's possible to boot the machine into safe mode and kill the virus before it is able to start.
When you say the machine won't start, exactly what do you mean? Will it power up at all? Does it hang at the POST screen? (that's the black screen with a bunch of nonsense on it that shows up briefly before Windows starts)

sorry to hear about the virus. be sure to run and rerun and antivirus thru ur sysytem. i perfer mcaffee.

Been doing this fer years, formatting is the only way of cleaning your system of virus that you cannot remove with conventional methods, how do you figure it wont rid them?

all that i meant to say is that i have dealt w/viruses that will rewrite there self on the reformatted section of the disk. What should be done is download a removal tool from a clean PC. Start your PC in safe mode run the utility. ensure that you turn off system restore and run the utility again...Ryan

Just say no to Format and Fdisk!!!!

I have to agree with Tom. I have been building and fixing computers for a good while and nothing will survive fdisk. Like I said though, if it will boot to safe mode it may be possible to kill it without formatting.
Hey Tom, if you talk to Keith, let me know what virus it was. It almost sounds like the 5 volt rail failed in the power supply (if it won't power up at all, that is).

hi everybody im on my brother in laws puter again so here goes thanks everybody for advice tom i was out today so i dont know if ya called or not ill try to call ya tommorow monty thanks for number been wanting to talk with ya for awhile i will be in touch soon now onto puter it will not start up at all now monitor has power but acts as if its in sleep mode puter itself wont come on has light in back to show power but none in front i swear i think ill compost it!i had to totally reformat puter once before when wife crashed it so im familiar with that process just havent had time yet this week it sucks with no puter!anway guys ill be in touch soon god bless ya burrhead
