just figured an easy way for those who measuring circumferences by themselves. DUCT TAPE. i got sick and tired of measuring and having the measuring tape slide down into rib lines, or measuring from a different spot and coming up with inconsistent numbers due to the problem of not being able to see the measuring tape on the other side around. so now i use duct tape to temporarily hold the measuring tape in place on the one side by just using a couple 3" pieces at a couple spots and then pull the measuring tape around the other side to get the measurement in the correct spot each time. after measuring, the duct tape comes off very easily on a mature pumpkin and does no damage at all to the skin. it works for me and thought i would share the info.

That sounds like a good idea. I do all of my measuring by myself. Even though my pumpkin is relatively small, it's still tough to do. So, I'll probably try this. But, I think I'd use painter's masking tape because it is made specifically for removeability. The duct tape probably wouldn't do damage. I'd just want to be safe rather than sorry.

I put marks (small lines with a marker or pen) on the pumpkin and measure a section at a time... from this line to this line to the next and so on.

I measure mine right after a calcium spray the pumpkin, the spray(water and calcium) thats on the pumpkin makes the tape measure stick great.

wow, I'm surprised we haven't had more posts about this. I just cuss under my breath and get about 5 different measurements. These are great ideas!

You guys do it the hard way. I measure about 12inches, hold the tape there, drop where I started, measure another 12inches or so, and so on, its realy easy. You can measure your pumpkin all by your self with no tape.

I often do what ben does ... if you start right at the blossom, stem or well another defined spot ... then you know where to end.

I do just as ben does but with a few marks on the pumpkin. This way I measure EXACTLY in the same spot each time. Measure from mark to mark.

I use a staple gun to hold the tape in a few places. :-)

thanks for the info. Being a newbie I really appreciate any and all info and tips that are given, and believe me this is one I will definately try, I too have been measuring solo and was tired of crawling over the pumpkin and only to have the tape let loose :o Next year I have on my list to get a larger fabric tape,to my amazement I had no idea that 10ft wouldn't do! (things you learn as you grow eh ?)
