What is are the best type of fall leaves to till into the soil so that next year (2006) you'll have the best possible soil to plant the monster in? Oak, Aspen, pine needles etc.?

Avoid oak and pine needles unless you soil is too alkaline. They are acidic and will lower soil ph.

I agree. Maple in New England. Oak will leave you with a more acidic soil. I lived under lots of oak trees and used to send the kids out with helmets to avoid the acorns to the head. Soil was very acidic. Look for Greencycle in your area if you want to spend $15 a pickup load of organic compost.
