I have a secondary vine growing in a direction I dont want it to the main is strong but I am wondering if I cut that secondary off will it stunt the progress of the plant. I have had to cut a few leaves and they healed fast but this secondary is growing fast and I am more interested in my primary vine.I think it may already be slowing the process of the main... what do you think?

Jimmy, cut it off man. Secondaries beyond 10 to 15' do more harm than good in many peoples opinions.
If you happened to be growing a flag patterned plant all of the secondaries are removed from one side of the main vine. This does not seam to hurt plants at all. In fact numerous large AGP's have come from flag plants. Most growers are now routinely removing every other vine on plants with very little trouble. The main benefit is increased leaf canopy and more room for leaf aeration to prevent PM.
More juice will then be directed into the main. The plant growth regulators(PGR's) in the main vines growing tip will quickly take in the excess juice and continue to push the main vine out farther at an even faster pace.

the plant is not even close to 10' yet it is just over 5' and the secondary in question is the first one from the root

Jimmy, you can also bend, stake and bury the vine. Most vines will grow out at a 45 degree angle from the main. Take your time in moving these first few vines. A move of this type can take a few days as you gradually nudge it closer to the proper alignment. I like to have the first two or three set back at angle greater than 90 so that there is plenty of room for the leaf canopy to expand.
Bend = move the vine in the heat of the day to avoid cracking the vine. Secondary vines can be moved very easily.
Stake = Once you have moved it to the correct angle off the plant, pin it to the soil using bamboo stakes.
Bury = cover the vine with soil to allow for rooting at each leaf node. When the roots go down the correction will be permanent.
