For some reason my Pumpkin is looking more and more like a cantaloupe. I wonder if it's starting to ripen or what??? Do any of you have this going on? Could I possibly be causing this??? Let me know what you all think. I appreciate your posts...Nezzie

Nezz,my 1260 Weir is cantalouped from hell and has skin like concrete, mine has put on a couple hundred pounds since the cantaloping has started so it dont mean its done growing yet,but i do believe that your pumpkin will go HEAVY because of it.

The older the fruit gets the more they have a tendency to cantaloupe. Mine is at day 50 and has started to really reveale the cantalouping. This is a good and a bad thing. It's a good thing because cantalouping helps toughin the skin up and our hope is the inner walls are thicking up more than the OTT measurements will show. The only bad thing is it also shows that the fruit is starting to ripen. Which means less and less pounds will added each day. We are now on the downslide of this game and every pound counts. Take a look at your stem, this is a good indicator as to the "age" of your pumpkin in it's life cycle. If it's still yellow and green with not much ruff bark like texture to it your fruit will still chug a long in growth a bit more. If the stem is looking more brown and tree barkish this indicates that the fruit is nearing the end of it's growth cycle.

WOW!!! Thank you all. This is great info.
Brooks B. I grew the Checkon 1242 seed.
I am growing this on a secondary so I wonder what the original main would have produced????
The stem is huge with bark like surface from healing but remains yellow in color.
This is a great plant so I started a clone,,,will see how that goes..Thanks again..Nez
