My stump and many places on vine appear to be rotted through. I have a pumpkin about 15 feet out. I would like to save it from the spreading rot. If I cut the main at where the rot has moved to the pumpkin would only have like 5 foot of main and a few secondaries. Would the pumpkin survive with that little of a root system. This rot has spread so bad within two days that my whole stump and 12 feet of main is totally soggy. The fruits are over 40 days old. thanks

I would say yes Jeff...We often will set a genetics pumpkin on a secondary. Once it is basketball size we then cut the secondary at the main vine. We end up with a respectable 200lber.
