I walked into K-Mart and asked where their electric blankets were. They gave me a really strange look and then said politely, "Sir, that is a seasonal item. Try checking back with us closer to Christmas."
So, dejected, but not deterred, I pushed on and went to Target. This time I quietly perused the bed linen aisles without talking to a store clerk, not wanting to draw odd glances. No luck though. Strike two.
So, Kohls was next. Same thing. Foul-tip.
The last stop in my quest was Wal-Mart. If I failed at Wal-Mart, I would be purchasing an expensive propane heater setup, which I was trying to avoid. Went to the blanket aisle....Nothing. I cursed under my breath....the patrons nearby I'm sure dismissed it as Tourette syndrome...but on my way out of the store I passed by the aisle with the vaporizers, and lo and behold--Electric Blankets! Scores of them in many colors and sizes. I grabbed three and ran to the front of the store, then thought better of it and put one back, thinking "that pumpkin has already turned orange, how much help is a blanket going to be now?". and now my pumpkins are tucked snug in their beds with visions of blue ribbons dancing in their heads.

Matt We have them in our gas stations up here all year round. we even have electric long underwear up here, the only bad thing about the underwear is the extention cord, especially when your driving long distances.

Ice-man, when using electric long underwear, is it difficult to make OTT measurements thru the drop flap? Just curious!!! Peace Wayne

Anyone every try a soil heating cable wrapped around a pumpkin, or duct taped into a blanket or some other manner? I pulled one of mine when my pumpkin split, but I've thought of using it on my others in some fashion. It is regulated for about 21 c or 70f. Just a thought.

yes, and you can get soil heating cables @ PumpkinSupply.com! But honestly, I think the electric blanket is a better bet. Got good growth overnight even though temps were around 50F.
