This is my first year geowing AGP and I see so many people shading their pumpkins..no pumpkin spf 40? Just curious if anyone could explain why. Thanks

The sun prematurely ages the skin.

In most instances the shade is also a wet weather shield and it may alter the temperture a few degrees.

That's why bald guys wear hats. . .

It's not a bald spot, it's a solar panel for brain power!

Also helps in case of hail.

It helps keep the temps more uniform around the fruit as well (keeps t he hot sun off the top while the bottom stays cool when in contact with the ground). Some people think certain color tarps (for shading) might help the pumpkin in various ways....growth, color, blocking UV...etc.

Thanks for the replies..So , does the skin getting oranger slow the pumpkins growth? Also, I would never let my pumpkin wear a shirt that says it is a solar panel for a sex machine...the bee's in my pumpkin patch wear those.

I think it's the other way around. When the pumpkin's growth slows the skin starts getting orange.
