When i lived in biloxi the sun would beat down on my baby pumpkin and make them abort. So one day i decided to shade them and they really didnt make any growth inprovements. It also created a large gap between leaves. So is there any ideas on what i could do in the future.

Try a shade cloth that comes in different % of shade. They come in many styles, 50% blockage,40%, ect.

We carry 30% shade at PumpkinSupply.com, and I think that is about as much as you would want to shade a plant. We had a bunch of days over 100F here in Nebraska, and the parts of the plant that were under the shade cloth looked great, and the parts that protruded from underneath my shade structure were lying down.

How about a fan, set on a thermostat, to circulate the air and keep it cooler under the shade? Tarps and shade cloths can really hold the heat. Some even put ice around the small females in the day or two around pollination.
