Way up here in Barrie fall begins right after Labour Day. I have begun to set up temporary greenhouses to cover my two remaining plants. My question is this. With the Great lakes being very much warmer than average what can we expect?
I can't seam to find any links that relate to surface temperatures of the lakes. They influence the weather here dramatically until Mid January, with lake effect offshore rains and snows. A late frost maybe possible this year because of this insulating effect. ANY predictions?

Russ, predection is cold, ice, and snow for all of Ontario this year while British Columbia will be mild with its usual rain. We western folks will be thinking of our frozen, igloo bound eastern cousins this fall/winter.

Depending on where you are in Barrie, lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay might affect you more than the Great Lakes, especially if winds come down from the North. Lake Huron is always cold (I was up there in July) and I'm afraid you are too far away from Lake Ontario and Lake Erie to be affected by them. So get ready to go skiing in Collingwood!

Russ the weather in Connecticut is ridiculous for mid September. The 8 day forecast calls for 80 degrees everyday. I'm not complaining... pumpkins still growing! Nights are in the low 60's to high 50's..nothing a little blanket won't take care of.

Thanks Sav. Looks like it will be warmer than average and slightly dryer too. Glen I'm a snow hater! The link Savio posted was helpful but I still can't find anything about the lakes and the temperature relationship if any, on weather patterns in the upper Great Lake states of Michigan, Ohio & NY along with Ontario.
Brad, I live 20 miles SSE of Georgian Bay. In the fall and early winter the warmer lakes help NNE winds to pick moisture in what is know as lack effect snows. Rain is also driven off the lake if the temperature difference is great enough. This is a rather localized effect. Buffalo NY, has the same problem with winds off of Lake Erie.

forecast includes sun rain clouds wind snow freezing temps as well as occasional times that are above average. I don't put any trust in weather forecasts they just are not reliable.
