Thank you all for the kind words. It was indeed a thrill to be present when I was awarded the winning trophy! After six years of trying to win this event, it was so gratifying to come out on top. Joel's pumpkin and mine were within 1/2" OTT measurements, so it was going to be a "close call" at the scales. I think that my heart stopped when the digital readout said "1050"!!

The OTT was 360". It was the Beachy 1097 X Self. I was shooting for the 1432 "Baby" from Dan....might of made it....then again, it might of split! During the last six days it gained over 130#....ie. it went from 346" to 360"!!

did it have a bad spot or something? dill ring, butt shaped blossom, or were you just scared it was gonna split? 22 lbs a day would have added up fast.....

Congratulation Stan..... growing anything with the 1097.5 Beachy is hard. This year my 1097.5 blossom rot and my 664.5 Liggett blossom split..... Both very thin on the blossom end. PumpkinBrat

Congrats to everyone. It's a good thing Stan didn't pay attention to all the folks flushing their Beachy Splitting 1097 seeds. LOL

Tom, you know in 2.5 more days at that rate what would have happened! Stan's fruit was awesome, big shoulders with lots of weight (but not too much :o).

As you recall last Spring, my 1097 didn't start off very well. Soooooo....my fellow growers, do not necessarily throw out a weak seedling in favor of a stronger plant.
Tom....the blossum end was slightly sunken it and the top was tilting backwards. I have already had six splits so far this season....I wasn't about to "look a gift horse into the mouth"!

Congrats to Stan, Joel and All who made it to the fair. It has been a tough year in the Pac Northwest. Stans 1050 was from the 1097, Joels was from his 1127 ish DQ fruit from last year, and my 895 was an 1104 Hester x 842 Eaton.

Yah Brett....just what we needed....another 895!! ;>) The scale seems to show that both you and Jim had Helium in the seed caviety. ;>) The top four pumkins were not that dissimilar in size.

Geez, tell me about it... Of course, now I have to cross the two 895's together... That will really screw things up. The 895 at Puyallup was measured at the weighoff at 339 total inches and it actually went 9 percent heavy. I wish my fruit was 359.5 total inches, heck I would have at least had a shot at that 1050. Looks like Washington is going to stomp Oregon this year.

Congratulations! Was it orange, orange/yellow, yellow or white? Does the Beachy always grow yellow or is there some orange in it? Greg

Our club sells AG seeds at the Puyallup Fair each year. Folks continually are asking if we can promise them a good orange pumpkin from the seed we sell. We have to shrug our shoulders and say there is no way of guaranteeing what color will pop up! Scotty's 1268 was creamy like the 763 parent, but my 1268 is quite orange! Go figure!
