As sit here and pondering about heading down the road to distant weighoff sites, I would be interesed to know how many of you loaded a winner and ended up with a dmg at the wieghoff.

I wonder if we can expand the story telling to include the most unusual ways to lose a pumpkin. Falling tree? Moose? Carried off by cockroaches? Meteor?

The best way to transport a large fruit is to water down your pickup bed get it nice and slippery, (especially if you have a plastic bed liner), then leave your tailgate down(due to the fruit not fitting between the wheel wells), and then punch the gas hard when going down the road at 25+ mph......lol...I have seen it done by mistake with an 852 lb. fruit skidding along the asphalt and bouncing...lol, but it held together...Wish I could have known in advance, as it was the vehicle in front of me luckly by about 30 feet, and I would have had my cam ready..lol..I will never forget that incident, as the police drove by and kept going while looking at the pumpkin sitting in the middle of the busy intersection..( they did not want to help get it back on the truck)..Happy weighing..JK

I think hes asking if anyone has had one split or somehow fall apart or be damaged just from normal driving. Anyone ever travel to the weighoff to find the ride caused their pumpkin to seperate between ribs or maybe crack at a dill ring or something along those lines?

I've seen fruit damaged at a weigh-off. Last year my helpers nicked up our entry while removing it from the truck after the fair.

The extremes some folks go to is amazing but helpful. Shrink wrap & bottles of water duct taped to the vine. A reinforced pallet with carpet remmnants & other padding are the minimum requirement for a possible top 10 finisher.
