I'm a new grower 3rd year and think i have a pumpkin at about 425lbs. This is my biggest so far.... anyway would it be worth my trouble to get it over to the Nekoosa Pumpkin Fest?? not at all looking for any recognition but would really like to know how heavy it is.. Registration is 30.00 bucks. oh yeah, I have no idea how to get it out of the patch!!!! any thoughts would be appreciated.. Thanks NNOD

Yes its worth it. Its great fun and you will rub shoulders with other growers. You will learn techniques and develope a resource for information on a local basis as well as establish some relationships for obtaining seeds. GO.
As far as getting the pumpkin there get a tarp and some friends and have a lifting party the night before the wieghoff.

there is a list of sanctioned GPC weigh-off sites with contact info if you go to select destination pick weigh offs then select GPC weigh off information you can pick a site and date that works best for you. As far as thinking it's not worth taking a 400#er I plan on taking a squash that is less than 50#'s. A weigh-off is always more fun when you bring something it's just being part of it that counts.

nnod, I am just curious if you know anything about the Oconomowoc pumpkin event. I used to work in Oconomowoc in the summers. But, I wasn't growing pumpkins in those days.

We encourage all, of our growers, take their best, no matter what size. Most do.
