Right now my fruit is growing awsome, Putting on some awsome weight gains since the warm weather has arrived.
My issue is Ive got 22ft of main before the fruit all leafs are still well, Ive also got 12 ft of main past the fruit with ONE pumpking around 30 lbs growing.
IF i cut the main off RIGHT at my largest fruit thats currently touching 400 lbs will this benefit this fruit any or hurt it?
how many people have cut the main off RIGHT at their largest fruit and saw benefits?
Ive got a secondary fruit growing out past this main fruit and its about 2 weeks old ( i'm growing it for my Niece for Halloween) As I COULDN'T cut it off after seeing how happy she was when she noticed it ( before I knew it was there) so I figured Id lave it grow for her for a halloween porch pumpkin ( shes only 1.5 years old ) but id feel bad cutting it off. AS far as I see it the fruit has roots growing at every node so it should be good to grow to last till halloween for her.
what my main issue is.. this late in the season only being 15 + days away from weight off bu cutting the main off RIGHT at the fruit will this help my 400 lber grow more or less?
thanks
Dave
Basically i'm just curious if i should just leave all be or cut the main after the fruit and allow the tap roots along the main and secondary feed the younger fruit for my nieces porch pumpkin and let all the rest from the stump out feed my large comp pumpking?
thanks dave

Do to a split in the vine (due to stess) right in front of my pumpkin I cut the main vine away and left a secondary to continue. I didn't notice any difference in weight. I'm sure others have.

I have noticed from a lot of the diary photos this year that it appears a lot of growers are cutting the main after the pumpkin.

Think the absolute opinion is unclear as, to cutting or not cutting and what effect it may have.

i usually let mine grow atleast 6 ft past to get nutrients even if alot of vine is already out.

Ever notice when you prune a secondary the last leaf grows huge! Bigger then all the other leaves on the plant? Wonder if this would apply to the pumpkin at the end of the vine aswell?

theres a 500 wallace seed growing in a nearby patch thats had no vine past the fruit since birth ( greenhouse blew over on the main) in fact the stem got damaged also so half of the stem is butterflied like a stuffed shrimp today the fruit is almost 1,000 lbs and still growing
you can grow with no vine after the fruit but to be successfull you would need a big plant before the fruit
if the fruit is tapering down then id leave everything the way it is
