I have finally lost my vine to rot and my biggest pumpkin 55 days old was removed from vine.I would like to keep it until Halloween. What's the best plan for that. Also, is 50-55 days old enough to last? Thanks

Jeff, Last year I had to cut mine off on sept 1st and stored it in my garage until halloween with out any problems. Make sure you don't put it directly on the cement (I used styrofoam) and on the hot days put a fan on it. It was still solid when I cut 'er open! Only had about 3 seeds germinate inside. I also gave it a water/bleach rub down every few days.

Hope this helps

I put 7 of my smaller giants last year by the front of the house out of the sun and they did just fine. I would store in a cool, dry, place, out of the sun, unless u want to rippenen it more to make it orange! They store really good. Congrats on your pumpkin JeffL!

Ahhh! I had to cut my main today to make sure that the vine rot doesn't make it to the pumpkin (see diary). It's still on the vine. But, the vine has no leaves. So, I sure hope that I can keep the fruit around for the weigh-off in another two weeks. It's not anywhere near a monster. But, it's my first try. So, I want to see hwat it weighs. I don't care if all of the other growers laugh at me. :-)
