Mr. Orange

Hilpoltstein, Bavaria, Germany

At 87 days old my 670 Daigle 03 X 801.5 Stelts 97 fruit finally decided that it is time to stop growing. My indicator clock hasn't shown any more gains in size for a few days now and so the BIG DAY is near.
Everything is arranged for tomorrow. The lifting ring is ready, a farmer with a front loader is at hands, I have available a scale that is certified (geeicht) until 2007, can weigh weights up to 1000 kg and is accurate to 0.1 kg, a notary will be present along with some helpers as witnesses.

The final measurements of the pumpkin are:

circ 167" OTTL 101" OTTW 113" TOTAL 381" est. weight 1157 lbs

The current German record is 744.5 lbs, the current European record is 1036 lbs.

The person with the closest guess of the final weight can select between a 869.5 Calai 00 or a 846 Jutras 03 seed. The person with the second closest guess wins the seed not chosen by the first winner.

Let's have some fun now....

Beautiful Pumpkin Martin. A pumpkin anybody would be proud of, and I mean anybody. I have no idea if the 670 tends to go heavy or light, so I'll stick with on the charts, 1161.

Martin, I see you gave my advice about the notary some consideration. Best thing you could do for sure is to avoid by any means any sort of question that could arise, about how official the weight of this beauty (Peter, I don`t agree with the term "monster" here, would fit to lots of other 1000+ pumpkins for sure ;-)) )is. Way to go. You won`t regret it. If you lived a bit closer to the Austrian border I could have made some notaries observe this without charging any money. Good luck ... 1185.

The result is in!!!! Man, that was the most exciting day I can remember, it was a pure pleasure, everybody had a great time!

1233.5 Reiss 2005 (559.5 kg) – new German and European record!!!

Est. weight was 1157 lbs so this fruit was 6.6% over the chart.

See diary for pictures and details…

Thanks everyone for guessing.
The winner of the contest is “Bryan” with a guess of 1234 lbs which was only 0.5 lbs off! Please let me know which seed you would like to have.
The next closest guesses come from “Thomas” (1231 lbs), “the big one” (1236 lbs) and “urban jungle” (1236 lbs). These three were 2.5 lbs off. I will cut the second seed into three pieces and send each of you guys a piece of it. LOL Hell no, I’ll figure something out… how about giving the seed to Thomas for being the first one to guess?

Later,
Martin

Mr. Orange

Hilpoltstein, Bavaria, Germany

Sure is, Smitty. Sorry, I forgot to mention it in my diary... I was still really excited about the weight and the problem with my weighoffs pics was (and still is) causing me a headache. My buddy Richard, who is quite a computer guru, made that picture for me so that I at least have something to give you guys an idea of what the scale and the whole weighting setup looked like. I will make sure to post many "official" pictures as soon as I have them... shouldn't be too long... other growers from Germany gave me good advice concerning the pictures and I'm sure I'll have them real soon.
Anyways, thanks for all your congrats and nice wishes everyone!

Way to go Martin. It's good to see perserverance pay off. Let me know when seeds are dry ;o) if shape and color hold up in the next generation, not to neglect size that is something that could find a place in my patch.
