Anyone ever try it? I'm referring to the hydraulic type that you bolt/weld to the bed of a pick up truck.......

Those lifts have ratings. The lift rating would have, to equal your requirements. The radius swing would need, to be able, to center your fruit and drop it, on your support structure. Finally your mounting plate will have to be attached, to a specific quality base, on the truck to guarentee the lift rating.
Investigate carefully while considering those lifts.

1320, if you look at some of the diary entried from today, I think that I saw a photo of exactly what you are describing. I don't remember who it was, though.

1320, I know for a fact you have a engine puller thing-a- ma-ging.,lol, Take that thing out to your patch and put blocks under it to make it level enough, then hook your straps up lift and load it on to a trailor or even in the bed of your truck for that matter. Im not sure if it will lift it high enough to fit in the bed of your truck though. This was my plan untill a buddy from work offered me his Backhoe.

I have seen those, usually bolted/welded on the side of the truck, if you are lifting a 1000 lb punkin, you may have a bit of a problem or many of them. Perhaps tipping the truck over, breaking the lift off, you have some home work to do.

Brian, how you think a engine lifting stand would work? Think it would be strong and stable enough?

I have been using a truck crane for the past few years. I installed it in my old Toyota pickup truck. I have used it for up to 700 pound fruit. I use it to get it off the ground high enough and then can drive a trailer under it. Two people can load them quite easily. I think there are photos in my 2004 and 2003 diary. Ned
