I've been growing pumpkins for awhile now, My largest to date is a 714lb in 2000 which came from a whaller 827. since then I used the seeds from the previous year pumpkins and have'nt been able to muster any thing better than my personal best. My plants are always good and healthy , pollination occur durning golden zone, no problens having pumkins to pollinate , I even had pumpkins much larger than my personal best early in the season only to fall short of breaking my p.b. The reason why I keep growing this seed is on my 714lb it was pollinated on 7/26 which is late and grew to 714 by 9/02 which I thought was pretty good, but since then nothing but 500/600lbers I'm sick of 500/600lbers. does this seed have any potential to reach 1,000lb or should I cross it next year. Any info much appreciated.

What was the cross on the 827 Whaller ? I can't find it. I assume your selfing your seed and not saving open pollinated seed. Also your soil might be running out of juice and may need a mid-season boost. I guess if you use a proven seed and have the same result you'll know the problem is'nt with the seed.

The closest thing I can find is the 837.2 Waller 99 (*829 Gancarz x not specified) The 837.2 Waller has grown a 752 and a 711 lber. The *829 Gancarz has grown the 837.2 Waller and a 550lber. The 837.2 Waller was 1 of the grandparents of the 898 Knauss. If the seed your growing is from the 837.2 Waller I would definitely cross it.

Thanks Ron I must of had the weight wrong on the 837 that pumpkin was weighed at collins in 99 which I grew my 714 in 2000 which also was weighed at collins thats the year collins had a $25,000 first prize Joe Pukos won that contest. I came in tenth out of thirty. Hey let me know if you want to trade
