Reason I ask is because, I'll be "painfully" picking my good growing late set pumpkin on the early mourning of Oct 8th for the haul to the Niagara weighoff, When I bring the fruit back home how can I keep it good for another 3 weeks so she will last for halloween I just dont want the insides to rot out and loose my seeds
thanks

It should not be a problem if the fruit is sound at harvest. Try to keep it cool, if it's going to get below freezing throw a blanket over it. I've kept AGs picked in October through December before.

Even a carved pumpkin will hold up for two or three weeks...longer if you spray the open areas with fungicide.

My uncarved lawn ornament pumpkins have usually held up until several freezes have done them in.

I picked my 881.5 on August 15th and she is still rock solid today, although I plan to remove the seeds tonight. Ill let you know what she looks like inside after I do it.

Typically Pumpkins can last for a very long time even past Feburary, that is if stored properly. We harvest onions in September and leave them in cold storage in the barns till July, so I am sure a pumpkin can manage a long time too, if kept in a cool, dry, and shaded environment. Keep it off cement or concrete though!

Even appearantly "solid" pumpkins can go "soft" in two weeks. It has happened two years in a row at the Puyallup Fair....my 1050 was still solid when I last looked last night.
