Wondering how many are having second thoughts about the choice of weigh-off events to attend due to fuel $$$ prices. I can't wait until we see the effects of HURRICANE RITA vs. KATRINA on our fuel/ mileage decisions...I think it is going to be a bank buster for everyone...Happy weighing to all, and hold on to the purses and wallets....JK..

um yeah. My truck gets 12 mpg if I'm lucky so I will be thinking twice about going to some contests.

Get out of RITA's rath. Geez, We all need to pray that Houston and Galveston are bypassed by this once in a lifetime storm. The pressure in Rita's core has started dropping again this morning. Now far lower in pressure than Katrina. OMG, it will be very damaging. Gas prices are only one of the pitfalls engaged by Mothers most ultimate and extreme wind and rain battle.
May, God bless the USA and The People of the Great State of Texas.

I will NOT be pulling a trailer to Oregon this year so the fruit I take down there will have to fit in the bed of the truck. I'm willing to pull one for the contests that are closer to home. But pulling a trailer as opposed to just hauling a load in the bed of the truck kills my gas mileage. If I can place well enough to pay for my gas down there and back I'll consider it worthwhile. And if I don't, well that's par for the course and I'll still have a good time. It's interesting to note that what is considered a long haul is different depending on which side of the country you're on. My family in Ohio and Pennsylvania think they're traveling a long way if they have to spend an hour in thier car. Here in the West that's just the morning commute for a lot of people. Attitudes may change if gas prices stay this high or get worse. Everyone may start looking for more to do close to home rather than hitting the road for their recreation.

Regular pump gasoline around here is now $2.89/gl which is a whopping $.30 more than this time last year. My F150 gets 17 mpg which is less than $.02 per mile difference.
After all the other expenses paid to blow up a 400 pounder, I am NOT changing any plans over a stinking 2 cents per mile.
Besides, I don't pay for gas. LOL
