Well sometimes we post the information we have since people can't always make the trip. Plus others on bp.com might be waiting to get any info. I'll make sure I post the 100 pounders first before the 1200 pounders next time I have any updates. lol

Should we start a rotton fruit category too? Where was the spot, how big was the spot and what percentage, of funky stuff was, in there behind the spot? Maybe we should have a brown ribbon, for the worst, of the rotton fruit too. The ultimate best would be the worst that would not fall through the lifting harness and still resemble a pumpkin.
.....Gorsh look at all the competition we are overlooking.

Glenn has a World Record Pigweed? Damn I did not photo the backhoe digging a single red root out, of my patch. And Glenn always demands pictures. So where's the pix Glenn.

Better take it to Altoona. We promise, to measure or weigh anything that comes in.

unfortunately not many people other than the grower themselves care about the also ran pumpkins at any weigh off

its kinda like the player to be named later in a baseball trade- not any interest who the player might be and by the time hes named no one remembers anyway

the individual clubs will post them as they should in their clubs newsletters however or someone from those clubs may elect to post the full results as it becomes available however, as sad as it seems ( and it is ),for the growers of smaller pumpkins their just is not as much interest

believe me i know cause i started out in the 125 and up catagory and know how some might feel slighted
ya know the best way to beat that situation ?
do like we did in rhode island "grow bigger pumpkins"

further more some larger weigh off sites have imposed a 350 lb minimum estimation rule because of time constraints, etc

the 700 lb club is history and pretty soon the catagory for recording and distribution lists will start at 900 lbs i would suspect

thats just the way this hobby has evolved

Dick..........shakey ground there! 90%, of the big fruit are grown, by 10%, of the growers. All the rest, of us do is make it possible, for the top ten percent, to be recognized. Without the 90% also attending there is no support, for the sport. There would be no mass, for the next growers who enter the top ten percent, to evolve from.

A more pleasing thought would be, to see belonging generate some support benefits.....like maybe a series, of patches or pins, for the hundred pound classes, for solid healthy fruit weighed at any weigh-in.

If the Tenderfoot Pin had not been a major Boy Scout Item there would have been no roadway, to the rank, of Eagle Scout.

we have the tenderfoot pin comparison already covered at our weigh off
we will give every grower in attendance a accomplishment metal with attached black and orange ribbon
we also bumped our ribbon and cash awards schedule up to 15 places so that more would be rewarded

Hey be nice to my boy from MD.

Mat, JeffL is the only grower in MD I know of that will top 300lb this year so if you are seeking info about whether or not to bring your pumpkin to the weighoff I say yes.

Not that I have one to bring. I could see giving an award to the "most improved" grower, but I don't think I need a ribbon signifying the fact that I DIDN'T grow a big one this year. Just my 2 cents. -Jim

PAP: That's a great step in the right direction.
The attitude that your describing is called hero worship and it pervades all professional sports. It really got going with Michael Jordan,etc... Now, it's part of this hobby and it does discourage people. Like you said, the commonly held belief is to use the discouragement to drive you to do better until you reach the 'respectable' level. Who determines what it 'respectable' and what isn't then? I wish there were a different attitude (and, I believe most growers are not ego-maniacs anyway and don't look down their noses at 100-200lbrs) But, something about posting the top weights alone has the effect of promoting the 'super' grower.

in closing just let me say please view the gpc weigh off results section that ken set up yesterday

the gpc and big pumpkins have formed this partnership so that all pumpkins (big and small ) weighed in at a gpc site will have there names and results posted

people can also view the results on line in real time once the bulk of weigh offs take place next saturday ( this is big )

also i believe the plan is to lump all gpc results together then sort the overall standings by weight from top to bottom

this winter we also will review plans and ideas for increasing our sites ,locations coordinators, and hopefully additional steering committe directors on an international scale

we will discuss prioposals for incorporating a progressive site fee system or possibly an across the board decrease
so that the smaller sites and clubs can get their start with us

its like i said in an earlier message

the gpc is not about money for the individual heavy hitters
we recognize them as the best in their craft as we should, but also realize that everyone needs to get a piece of the pumpkin pie
