Since I enjoy the Guess the Weight competitions and have benefitted from one this year, I thought I'd offer up my own opportunity to win some seeds. Except we already know the weight of my pumpkin. So, on Sunday October 9th I will be paddling my 674 across Lake Pisaquid in Windsor, Nova Scotia, along with Martha Stewart. I will offer up a 1036 Companion and some of the seeds from my 674 (788.6 Companion x self) to the closest guess at how much I beat Martha Stewart, or get beat by her. In order to qualify you must guess the following: who will finish first between myself and Martha, and how much they will beat the other by overall (including both heats if 2 heats are required). You must also guess the time difference between the two of us, which will be used as a tiebreaker if necessary. If one competitor does not finish the race they will be considered last. If both of us fail to finish, it will be considered a tie, regardless of who stayed afloat the longest.
For Example. NSTransplant wins by 6 places and by a time of 3minutes, 32 seconds.
Have a look at www.pumpkinregatta.com too see last years results if you would like to research your guess. Feel free to ask questions if I've left anything out, and good luck!

i'm sure Marth has been pumping iron working on the upper body strength all the time she was locked away. she might come out with a good pace.
ps - it's harder than it looks. i got 3rd place in ours this year, a fall from 2nd last year.

Martha has inside info that you've got a hole in your boat.

Martha will be too busy carving a seasonally appropriate figurehead into her boat to consider seriously the full implications of paddling a cucurbititous canoe. She will not win. Please outwit, outsmart, outpaddle . . .

Don't worry about the hole (holes actually), once I'm on plane the holes will actually be out of the water.

Martha certainly has some support. But she's going to need to smuggle a motor on board if she has any intentions of winning.

nst transplants beats martha by 6 places and 3:32. Lake Pisaquid sounds like it should be downstream from Poopenaut Valley in Yosemite Natl. Park.

I disagree. Pumpkins float surprisingly well. And with the Dills helping out with the preperation of Martha's boat, I expect to have to paddle my butt off.

Is this Martha 1st time in a pumpkin boat? Are you a seasoned veteran. If so I say you kick her butt.. I know a rudder or keel sure would be a nice addition for manueverabilty. Paddle hard and rub it in her face like Happy Gilmore did to Bob Barker...lol I say you win buy 3:30

I will pass along some additional info. Danny Dill has hand picked an aerodynamic pumpkin described as "perfect" for the Regatta. It weighed 676 while mine weighed 674 and is a little less aerodynamic. The Dills are rooting for Martha apparently, but I do have one year under my belt, experience has to be worth something!

No. Martha doesn't need anymore friggin help! You know what's funny, I work in an Aerospace Engineering department, you'd think I'd know the meaning of "aerodynamic".

Well, it's been reported that Martha will not be allowed to cross the border as a result of her criminal record. She's sending a camera crew up anyway to film the event, but if anyone knows any big stars they could send this way we'd appreciate it.

Sorry everyone... I hate to burst your bubble, but there will be no Martha. This story was on the news-wire this morning:
Martha Stewart will not be allowed to attend a pumpkin festival in Windsor, Nova Scotia. It's because she does not have clearance to enter Canada, after serving time in prison for lying about a U-S stock sale. Stewart had planned to take part in a parade and pumpkin-craft competition. A person with a criminal record who is on probation is considered inadmissible to Canada.

Martha went live on her tv show today apologizing why she couldn't come. She talked about the regatta and of course my dad, Howard. She was genuine when speaking to us last night and wishes still to come next year. One of her crew members will paddle her pumpkin and Martha hopes to show it in a couple of weeks on her show. The main problem was not able to get a Visa by Saturday to enter the country. I believe someone from her team will be eating crow as it was confirmed to us that all custom details were handled before we even went to the press. All in all, good publicity for Windsor and the regatta. The press are calling steady. We still expect a huge crowd for the event.

Why not dress Danny up in Martha's clothing? He'd make a good Martha!

The Martha issue is not off the table yet. Ottawa and her legal dept. are working out the details and we may yet see her here in Windsor. Every day is something new. Will - we have about 30 entries received to date. This includes both paddling and motorized. Still expect to receive more by the deadline on Friday. Keep reading the papers, as the publicity of this whole thing is nothing but good for our regatta and town.

Here is the latest off the news-wire:
Martha Stewart may still be allowed to attend this weekend's Windsor-West Hants Pumpkin Festival in Nova Scotia. As a convicted felon, Stewart cannot enter Canada without applying for a temporary permit. A report says federal officials are working to fast-track Stewart's application so she could attend the festival.

I already looked into a Martha Costume on Ebay. Best I could find was a wig. And I can't knit. So unless somebody else wants to hook me up with a decent costume, I'll stick to my original plan.

Just read in the paper today that Martha is not allowed into Canada and is quoted as saying "someone with my legal status right now must have a special visa to enter Canada, and there is no way for me to get the visa by this Saturday"
"Its quite a shock and a real let down for the entire town," said Dill's son Danny.
"The law's the law, I guess," he said. "Still I'd like to squash (the government) with one of our big pumpkins."

Hey, could use a raft or pontoon boat out of long gourds for a regatta? Or, does the "watercraft" need to be fashioned from a pumpkin only?

Regatta is over. Martha couldn't make it due to fog. I did however place 8th or so (was too busy paddling to count the people in front of me), so, as the first person to show me some support, Lawman wins! I'll shoot you an email, get your address, seeds from my 674 are drying right now, should be good in a couple of weeks.
