I've pot grown my very first pumpkin. It's sitting in a 4" pot, covered with platic wrap and meat thermometer in it to check the temps. It stays a nice 78-80F throughout the day and night. It just popped through the soil today. Should open up and straighten out as the day goes on.
I've already experimented on trying to get the most pumpkins clustered together. I've got like 7 at the tip of a vine all bunched up. I've experimented in moving them after they are set, with success. Experimented with different ways to get rid of powerdery mildew...all failed, it either wilted or burned the leaves severely. Know, you know how if you put food coloring in a vase with flowers the flowers eventually become stained that color? What if the pumpkin was given water that was colored? would the plant soak up that coloring and then the plant would eventual begin to stain? Purple, red, blue or some multi-colored or weird colored pumpkins?

That's interesting. I want to experiment too now that I have a ton of seeds. But I don't have time or space, or any ideas for an experiment I could perform on them. Or one that could benefit my next seasons start.

I did a lot of experimenting with germination techniques, starting containers, and starting mediums to determine the effects on early root growth last winter. I think it gave my plants a good healthy start.
