Congratulations again to Larry Checkon and his milestone 1469 lb World Record. If that pumpkin is 300 lbs heavy instead of 300 lbs. light as Larry states, we can all do the math.

I had a dream that the weight of giant pumpkins would top off at 20,000lbs. I'm serios too. For some reason i figured the weight out with my highschool Physics teacher that the final weight would be 20,000lbs. Weird dream. I personally think that the inside cavity space of pumpkins will shrink and thats why pumpkins will continue to get larger and larger.

Small cavity = No seeds! Then what?

Stan we'll just do the same thing those guys who grow naval oranges and seedless watermelons do. . . whatever that is. . .

The hobby can probably survive reduced cavities. Afterall, how many seeds are there sitting in somebody's collection that will never be grown? Now, the cost may be higher (low supply, high demand). But, even if fruits had tens of seeds rather than hundreds, wouldn't there still be enough for everyone?

well i saw lary's big one in person. the problem with ott ing such pumpkin you have deal with cavity density is alot less then wall density. You don't have lose seed cavity with higher weight. All need do is get the seed cavity to be more fleshy like a watermelon where the seeds are inbeded in a dense flesh.

A week before the weigh off, Gerry's pumpkin on our 1242 split on the bottom and started to rot. It was nearly identical in size to my 1233DMG grown last year also on our 1242 but it had thin walls and weighed less than 1000 lbs. This was the dryest and hottest season I have ever seen and this seems to be a factor. We will try the 1354 again of course in hopefully better conditions to see what happens. I did cross it with the Hester 1104 which should put some "heavy" into the seed.

I'm Guessing that pumpkins will end up like matfox described them. If worse comes to worse we can always try growing other giant vined fruit. Save your seeds for a future generation. All we can do is pass the sport onto our children.
