We are planning on going to a Halloween Event about 20 miles away with my sons 736, but we would like to carve it first so that we can do a better job in saving the seeds. My question is has anyone tried this before and how did the carved pumpkin hold up? Thanks for your replies.

I took mine to a friends house to be carved, and then to a Halloween party, and finally back home- maybe 40 miles round trip. I coated the carved areas with vasoline and had a tarp over it to try to keep the wind off. No problems.

Sprayed with fungicide inside and out and coated with Silicone Oven Treatment will hold a carved pumpkin three weeks. Maybe a little longer if it gets and stays cooler.

They create some awsome expressions as they decompose and begin, to fall apart. "Oh look at it now" is an often heard comment as it contorts into a pile that leaves only memories.

Thanks guys. I guess I am just a little concerned that it will collapse on itself once the outer shell has been cut into. And I don't want to travel to the event and find I have a crumbled pumpkin.

We cut them open prior to taking them to the Regatta. They're still really solid even with the walls shaved down to a ouple inches so I'm sure carving them and travelling would be fine.

Now come on guys...the answer is simple.....it depends on how much you remove during carving...duh !

I've have it on the pallet when it's carved and then just move the pallet when you need to transport it. Cutting into it will weaken the structure, obviously.
