The other day a few of my colleagues at work asked me about my pumpkins, so I told them I would send them a picture. Here are a few of their replies to my e-mail:
“Wowww! That can make a lot of pumpkin soup.”
“This is really something, what do you feed them to make them grow so big, I never seen anything like it. Mine never go beyond 7 to 10 pounds, what do I do wrong?”
“Man what do you feed those pumpkins.”
“So Owen, How many pumpkin pies do you think that monster would make? When are you taking it in to compete against other Giant Pumpkins?.”
“How on earth did you manage to grow one so big?”
“Oh my goodness!!!”
“That’s a big assed pumpkin!”
My Favorite reply:
“Good Lord!!!!!!!!! It’s not even orange!!!!!!!! I’m gonna start calling you “Farmer O”.”

Too funny Owen, Sounds VERY familiar to me. Most people ask about what to feed such a big baby and second is "what are you going to do with it?" Third - and that one I like most - "I really want to apologize for laughing at you in early spring and not taking you serious at all when you said you were going to grow a pumpkin over 300 pounds" - Man, there are a lot of folks now who will now take everything I say for granted `till the day I die ...
BTW, what do you guys do with your pumpkins? The only question, I had no answer to ...

Steel, Same here,The question I always hear is " What do you do with them after you grow them?" I tell them ,I cut them open to use the seeds for next year and to trade with other growers to grow another one. I always get the strange and confused look afterwards from them.

"Why do you grow them on top of your soil? I thought you need to dig them out in October." Asked by a person with 2 university degrees driving a brand new BMW 700 obviously not knowing that a pumpkin is not a potato.

Glenn, there were 16 AG's at our weigh off. Two were green, they loved them. I do not know how many pictures were taken. And, the best part, I believe that there may be a few more grown over here next year. All of the growers I talked to liked the idea.
Whiched leads to another queston I was asked:
"What did you do to make them grow so green?"
