Well, the final UK Giant Pumpkin Competition for 2005 was held yesterday October 15th. Unfortunately Alun Jones was unable to attend the Competition because of strictly personal reasons. However, Alun's main Pumpkin is still very healthy and has obviously slowed right down in growth. As there are no other Competitions this year Alun will be establishing the Weight of his main Pumpkin by either the UOW and accuratly weighed method, or if this is not possible, it will be EST by 2005 Chart.
Alun is extremely dissapointed that he was unable to get an "Official" weight of his main Pumpkin but will update all on the boards as soon as he is able to. Message posted on behalf of Alun Jones. Regards Mike

Thanks for posting Mike. Regardless of the status of Alun's pumpkin, it will not take away from the fantastic job he did this year with it. I hope it goes heavy!

Owen Thank's for the very kind words. If his biggest Pumpkin goes heavy to chart it is going to be one heck of a Weight. As you may know it already tapes at over 970 and, as it is on the 1068 Wallace, lord knows how much over Chart it may be. Even just by EST by tape it is the heaviest Pumpkin ever grown in the UK. Regards Mike

RON AND I ARE PULLING FOR ALUN WHATEVER HIS PERSONAL SITUATION MAY BE HES A GREAT GUY AND ALWAYS WELCOME IN GREENE RI USA ALSO GREAT TO HEAR ALUNS 1068 OFFSPRING HAS A CHANCE TO BREAK A UK RECORD
AS YOU KNOW OUR 500 SEED HELPED PRODUCE A MONSTER ALASKA STATE RECORD AND BETWEEN THE 1068 AND 500 DOMINATED OUR TOP TEN BEST AT FRERICKS FARM WEIGH OFF LAST WEEK
THATS WHAT WE NEED TO CALL THESE TWO SEED STOCKS " SEEDS FOR THE COMMON MAN " OR COMMON WOMAN " PLUG IT IN AND A RECORD FALLS SOMEWHERE - LOL
TO BAD WE GAVE THE MAJORITY OF THEM OUT TO ANYONE WHO REQUESTED BACK IN 2003

Isn't it possible to get an official weight while not at an official weigh-off? Can't you get the right kind of witnesses to observe the weigh-in and/or inspect the fruit? So, there may still be a chance to avoid the dreaded UOW or EST.
Or, maybe you could contact the folks at the Guinness Book if you're sure that a new UK record will be set. They may have different rules. It still might not be recognized by the GPC. But, it would still be significant recognition.

Marc Very good question and Alun is considering actually getting his 1068 Pumpkin weighed to get an official Weight but his present circumstances have to be considered. I have just seen the latest Picture, sent to me via Camera Phone, of his 1068 Pumpkin and it is taping at 978 Lbs. Aluns circumstances are very complex and i am unable to go into any detail here but he knows he has A LOT of good friends out there. Guinness no longer recognises UK Pumpkin/Squash Records only World Records.
Dick & Ron Alun sure does know that you guys are pulling for him and i am sure he will be getting around to reading these messages soon. In the mean time i am sure that it would cheer Alun up some what if folks would fire a private Email off to him and encourage him to get the 1068 Pumpkin weighed even though it may have to be UOW.
Thank's for your time guys Regards Mike

I hope that all is well and that somehow you guys can get it weighed on an accurate scale. I think that would be an official weight as far as the AGGC is concerned. My take on national records where there is no official body is to get as much publicity as you can and put it in front of as many people as you can to help gain acceptance but thats just my opinion of course.
