peat is a great thing to put in the soil although it is quite expensive... just watch your ph if you are using untreated peat moss!

Personally, I would not plant in 100% peat. I would mix it well with the other soil in the planting hole and I would not go over 25% peat.

I agree totally with Stan's post. Make sure the mix is well watered and tempered to a state of, all parts evenly damp...before you put it into your soil mix.

I dumped 2 ton of raw organic peat on the patch last fall and tilled it in with some leaves and manure and had good results this year. I wouldnt go hog wild with the stuff cause it does lower your ph, but it's great for keeping the soil loose and soft.

Was it 2 ton of "dry" peat....or 2 ton of wet peat? How big is your patch? Two ton is not so much when spread over 1/2 acre.
