this is just something thats been racing through my head for a whie now.at one time hear we had penny for the lanttern where the locall kids would be done up as either guy fawlkes or a scarecrow, locall houses and pubs would be visited and more often than not the kids could make quite a bit of money.but this was done by carving out a turnip (swede) pinched from the locall farmers field.nowadays here in the uk its now called trick or treat but the setup is more or less the same.its funny how ways of life can jumnp these huge oceans GROW THEM BIG GOD BLESS EVERYONE.peter

We always decorate the house with ghosts, witches, skeletons and other spooky things. Kids come around in costume and we hand out candy. Usually kids behave, but sometimes you get 1 or 2 that want to pull a trick, smash a pumpkin or soap a window. One of the local boy scout troops sets up a big haunted house at the fire station. It's always done well and a lot of fun.

there is an article today in our sun times which talks about the possible banning of hallween celebrations in austira for fear of americanism spreading since they dont do the whole halloween thing and are afraid of losing the culture. Here its costume contest parties and trick or treating even i dress up the houses are somewhat decorated from a few stuffed pumpkins to an elaborate halloween display of coffins and such have fun everyone and be safe

As a friend at work told me yesterday, Halloween is just another chance for the Devil to get his claws in you. LOFL!! His poor kids...

No banning here in Germany (thanks your Veterans for the freedom) and things, like decorating, costuming, party and so on, grow up more and more. Now, this year the Lutheran Church here starts to remember that the oct 31. also is the birthday of the Lutheran Church and they handing out orange drops by street working. The question is, should people who believe in god also serve halloween?

Well, I'm Catholic and even my church tolerates it... and we're usually pretty straight-edge if ya know what I mean. The Baptists around here seem to have the toughest time with it; don't know why.

For the record, Halloween to me is 1) celebration of the harvest and 2) an excuse to have some fun and remember what it's like to be a kid again (it's not that hard for me!)

Just because we carve a punkin and light it up and enjoy watchin the little ones in costumes having fun doesnt mean we are "serving" Halloween...or not believing in God. Believing in God does not preclude us from enjoying life...especially the smiles on the little ones faces. Peace Wayne

Hey Orangeneck, I'm with you. Our priest comes to the big Halloween party at my school (last year he wore a New Jersey Devil's shirt) and had a great time with the kids. Some people just take things too seriously. Let's have some fun once in a while.
