Has any one else experienced a very low seed count or none at all this year? Here in R.I.we are wondering if it was the cool wet spring or the very hot weather at pollination time.Or could it be the same seeds we all planted.I have experienced low seed count before with pumpkins that go heavy over the chart. Any thoughts? Joe

About 500 good looking seeds from a 709 McCallum here. More white immature seeds than I can remember in years past.
Pumpkin was selfed and weighed 713 lbs, around 4% lite.

Hi Joe, Experiencing the same frustration here...
Low seed count in every one so far including my 1314.8
I have one left to open,my 881sq. You may be right, the wet spring or was it the pollination process?

I cut my 378.5 Open this weekend and counted a total of 265 seeds after drying for a day I culled the count down to the best 180 seeds left in the pile. rest went into the garbage as they were eaither half white / brown and others were hallow and some were not fully formed, but out of the 180 I have left all are solid. I did notice that allot of them have cracks in the shell though.

One with no viable seeds. One with less than 300 seeds. Two with less than 250 good seeds. One was 16% heavy, many immature seeds, the other a little light, all good seeds just not many. Two to go after tomorrow. ?

Of all of my seven pumpkins, my seed count was very low. In the past I had a lot of seeds in each pumpkin. Maybe the spring had something to do with it. In one pumpkin I had a little over 50 seeds. Very surprised at the low count this year

I had one pumpkin with over 500 seeds, the others produced only, 75 seeds from my 947 Hunt, 3 from my 530 Hunt and 2 from my 847 Hunt. Must have been the hot weather. The watermelons however had lots. I will have lots of watermelon seeds (207.6 Hunt & 110 Hunt) to trade, as well as lots from my 1011 Hunt pumpkin. Email me if you would like to trade seeds.

seed counts seem to be running 100-200 less per fruit average.I have noticed that seed counts fluctuate with temperature, so it is no suprise to me. Very unfortunate tho...dangit

usually I found 600-750 viable seeds in each pumpkin, this year was really bad for seed quantity, average 450 for pumpkin outdoor, and 150 for the two pumpkin in greenhouse!
we had 10 days very hot just after polinisation (higher in greenhouse of course)followed by a cold summer.

my 1027 of this year went 117 lb's over chart and had no good seed's whatsoever. maybe it was the hot dry summer since so many other's have experienced the same problem i dont think it would be time of pollenation i pollenated all of mine between 7-8 am and it was the only one with a low seed count that i've cut open

I have had low or no seed count on 3 pumpkins,
1104.5 Hester no seeds crossed with 966 Holland
966 Holland about 6 with possible good seeds rest about a 1/3 of the normal size pollenated with 1104.5 Hester.
the 1373 Dueck/Papez had about 100-200, on this one I'm thinking it was a heat issue

As Joe, and other SNGPG growers witnessed on Halloween eve pumpkin carving day, a cruel trick was dealt, certainly not a treat. Absolutely zero, none, natta, viable seeds from my 1102 this year. So looking forward to the offspring. The 1102 was grown on the 500 wallace and crossed with the 846 jutras. Peter

20 seeds out of my 518 (628 Olsen x 826 Handy), still some of them hollow. It took 2nd place in Austria and the contract says, half of the seeds go to the people organizing the Austrian weigh off. What will they say? Only abot 15 hollow seeds from my 320 est. (628 x self) on the same plant ...

I think it was the heat at pollination time. I had a heck of a time getting anything to set.
