I went to carve one of my smaller pumpkins and my knife wasn't up to the task. i thought what better way to fix my predicament than with a power tool. It didn't turn out too bad either.curious if anyone else had the same idea.

Yeah I used a sawzall. For a really fast job use a chainsaw.

Portercable sawzall here. It carved the curves and angles very nicely. I'll do it that way from now on. Power tools rule!!

Don't forget hole saws in the corless drill. You still need a key hole saw to finish the thick shelled monsters though.

This is getting ridiculously arcane, but what brand/model of chain saw? I ask because I spent 30 years in the trees, working mainly with Stihl saws. An 020 has great torque, best all-around small saw, does anybody use an 066 or 086 for the really big ones?

Dad has an old 051, but that thing is so heavy, it would be hard to control on a pumpkin, besides that it's got a 36 inch bar on it. WOuld probably look like pumpkin soup after that..lol

Just a word to you chain saw carvers! Make sure when you're done, you clean and oil the chain and bar. The sugar in the pumpkins can cause them to rust up good!
