First Timers Take Three

Arroyo Grande, CA,USA

Randy & Brenda Cavanaugh. "let's just say Randy had a beer one night and got on the internet. "I typed in pumpkins and the next thing I knew, I had a seed and my wife abandoned me because she's down there taking care of things" Pollinating this and pollinating that, crossing this and crossing that. All I get to do is the grunt work!
I flashed once and my neighbors laughed (don't have as many neighbors as we used to)! We had a great time growing our first almost 600lb pumpkin (ref article link). As per our governor, Arnold would say, "we be back" next year.

Since this article was published we have had numerous request to grow giant pumpkins. We are spreading the GOOD word!

Couldn't have gotten as far as I've come without my better half, Terry. Not only does she provide moral support, but does a HUGE part of the weeding & pruning, as well as a big part of the other 20 acre "yard" work. She also picks early on in the season which one is "hers!"
