You probably know that he didn't grow pumpkins this year, don't you. I heard that he has a great recipe for pumpkin stew though.

Jordan, I can see you are making friends fast. I bet Kirk (I mean Mr. Mombert) is just waiting to hear from you and has his best seeds just waiting specifically for you.
Good luck with that....take a hint kid!!

Ok guys come on! All he wanted was to contact Kirk for seeds and he gets blasted for it! Just because his is being annoying does not mean that he needs to be treated this way!
I just hope that if he does grow pumpkins and produces a nice cross that he would be more considerate and patient with those of you who would want his seeds, but cant just give him a simple answer to his question.
Jordan I have his snail-mail address and will e-mail it to you as soon as I can.

I certainly might have missed something, I don't read every post, but aside from being overly enthusiastic, did Jorden do anything that was really that bad? The kids on this site could be into a lot of things, including violence and drugs. I shudder to think what else. If what they want to do is grow pumpkins, let's try to encourage it, not squash it. If I'm out of line here, let me know, it's just my opinion.

I agree with Dave and Mikkal. Jordon, you should try not to pester folks too much though. Keep e-mailing and talking to other growers, collect seeds and information. If you are serious about growing giants you will be rewarded.

You other growers that are defending him have obviously not chatted with Jordan. Jordan tell us again where you are growing and how big your patch is going to be. How you are going to care for these pumpkins. I tried being helpful and pointed out the 2 community gardens a few blocks away. Heck I am sure we all could even chip in a pay the rental fee. There isn't a grower out there that Google can't find.

I agree with you Dave! Jordan is young and enthusiastic. We were all that way one time. As you all know pumpkin growing gets in your blood and you get excited about it. Jordan doesn't have the years of life experience that some of the rest of us do. Lets cut him a break. He's trying to become a pumpkin grower and if he grows with as much enthusiasm as he has now....he's liable to grow a 1500 by the time he is 20!

I have tried as well as many others to on the chat.....to encourage this Biggie. He doesn't listen to anyone there. You ask him a question and he will not answer, very rude and disrepectful. When he comes on the chat and starts asking for seeds and address without a hello or seeing if there is any thing be chatted about of interest the chatters are saying. I know he is young, but enough is enough. He follows others to other chatrooms and is asked to leave and doen't.....rude! So all of you defending him i think you should just email him if you want to chat with him or come on bp chat a see for yourself.

You guys must have missed when he was mouthing off about how he is going to sell all the seeds everyone gives him and make a fortune. LOL Obviously he doesn't plan to return the favor. I agree that we should encourage him but I think he has enough seeds at this point from the posts I've observed.

I am an experienced teacher at a school with 3000 students of his age. I know his type. There is a reason why he acts the way he does. Unfortunately it has to do with his upbringing, or rather the lack thereof.
At his age, students should start realizing there are other people in the world than themselves. Apparently he is used to getting his own way. His self-image is totally distorted.
Put pyschologically it seems he has to play a father figure in his family. This coincides with the fact that he always only mentions his mother, who he also degrades during chat sessions.
He is not capable of trusting anyone and will do what he wants to do regardless of any warnings. If or when everything goes wrong and he really gets stuck, he will finally be broken. This could take years. Although this sounds dramatic, it is then that he might pay attention to what other people are saying.
By constantly working against him, he will feel all the more need to manifest himself.
One thing we are all offering him is attention. These types of children will always attract attention. Since they are usually not capable to attracting positive attention, they will attract negative attention.
My advice is let him go. Don't reply to his messages. Don't send him seeds, he has tons of them or he can simply buy them. Let him grow his 20 pumpkins on 2 square feet of patch.
Will he grow a 1500 by the time is 20? Likely not because he doesn't listen to advice. Yes he is very enthusiastic. I know a 60 year old grower who is as enthusiastic as he is and also says "stupid" things. The difference is this grower listens to advice.
Sorry for taking up so much space.

Jordan, Get all your ducks in a row, and come back asking for seeds. Your enthusiasm should be commended, but right now your priorities need to be realigned. Get the patch, fix the soil, and then get the seed. I was there once...and it was not near as long as most of the growers on this site. When you go to chat, listen, dont talk to much. We all started off where your at. You just need to be a little more mature and patient with everyone. We are not all that patient with young people. If ya get your spot, with big enough area for healthy larger plants, get back with us all on seeds.

Good advice Tom. Jorden, if you have a decent space, grow 2 to 4 plants. The seeds you harvest could last you forever, and when you grow something big, everybody will ask you for seeds. Good luck this spring.

Back when I started growing there were no computers. No big pumpkin web sites, or actually no web sites period. No cell phones. The chemicals and fertilizers and such were totally different, as were the seeds ( well maybe ) but there was always hard work, organics, and extreme drive to grow a big fruit, or garden...I must be getting old..lol, But anyway I think it seems kids now days kids have it too easy and expect 20.00 an hr. fresh out of school....But little do they know the competition is very fierce out there as the knowledge base and population of people grows in this country and throught the world with all of the new high tech toys. But the bottom line is there is no replacement for hands on experience and knowledge from actually performing the hard work it takes to get the experience and lots of it to be successful whether it be growing pumpkins, or being successful in life itself...peace to all and happy growing

These so called pschological "assesments" of children from so called "experts", may be the reason so many kids are on medications.
Jordan may be the next Ted Bundy,(no offence Jordan). Stick to education dutch brad,,after all, unless you have a PHD in mental illness,,and have done a person to person exam on Jordan, you are full of air(or bovine residue)! "Know his type"???,,,,I pity your students who you have "typed".

By the way McPumpkin, I don't remember talking about a mental illness as it is no illness at all. It is also too bad you don't understand education, McPumpkin. Teaching a subject is only part of our job these days. The other part is caring for the well-being of our students. As more and more parents spend less and less time with their children, schools have been spending more and more time with their upbringing. I wish I had Jordan in my school. I would devote time to him. A pumpkin website is not the place to solve any problems, thus my advice: let him do his thing.
Finally, my degrees are in education and adolescent pyschology.

You ever here of Columbine Mcpumpkin? Psychological assessments are very much needed in school. Not only are they used for kids that are a risk to other students but they help with determining disabilities. They help to even the playing field for kids that have a disability so that they can be successful in school. I'm going to blow more smoke now. Thanks

I think Jordan's plan to request a community garden is commendable. Rather mature even.
But, Biggie Smalls, if you bail out, then you were just saying what you thought we wanted to hear and I won't stick up for you again.

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Bigpumpkins, and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.

The weather here has taken a turn for the worse. First it started raining, then it got cold and now the wind is really blowing. It could be a very long winter. My garden is now sleeping and waiting for Spring to come. Meanwhile there is not much to do relative to pumpkins and such except sit and plan or just sit. It really does make a difference when a pumpkin is on the vine. It is interesting how some of the posts are responded to. Almost every forum has someone who participates and is irritating to some of the other participants. Always the advice being given by the sages is not to react but people do react anyway. Those who are the irritants never seem to get it and it just keeps going. People get thrown out of the chatroom or whatever but they just come back with a different name and it just keeps going on. Yes, it could be a long winter.

I tried to stay away from this thread as much as I can, because I don't like to "bash" other people. But I just can't help it. Jordan has irritated many people yes, It's annoying, I agree, but if you are one of the people that he annoys or dislikes just don't respond to any of his posts. He seems to already have enough seeds and if nobody pays attention to him then maybe he will get the point and stop being that way. Jordan, I'm not trying to be mean to you personally. I'm just trying to do you a favor by getting some of these folks to stop wasting your time and their own time by blasting you for various reasons. So everybody please stop all of this so we can all concentrate on what we do best which is growing GIANT PUMPKINS. Good luck to everybody and I hope this post helped the situation because that was my only intention. I'm only trying to help. I'm not trying to stir the pot or make trouble for anybody.
