Hi everyone.
I've put together a file on all the possible info about how I grew my 1407. If anyone has questions, I will do my best to answer them in this thread. You can find the info here:

That is great info! Now all I have to figure out is how to get Agro-K across the continent and into Canada...

Craig informed me that it can be brought into Canada. Contact him and he will explain how to do it. The GVGO is thinking about setting up a Agro-K pick-up during the Niagara seminar for growers in Ontario that want to purchase his products. More info will be available soon.

Thank you Andy. Your excellent "how I done it" kinda cancels the onery letter I got from one well known heavy hitter when I was preaching more than some could stand or wanted, to hear some time back.
My patch is about ready....It's me that needs a booster shot or two. :)))

Very well done. But I still think your wife Christy might of had the golden touch..Ha,Ha. Most of all, most guys who grew something this big would never share in depth as Andy did. Anyone who reads what you did Andy, will have a better chance at getting a big pumpkin.

yep, couldn't have done it without the wife.
she said - "let's plow up this part of the lawn. it looks like a good spot and there will be less to mow."

Thanks Andy! I noticed that none of your other pumpkins broke 800 lbs. What do you attribute the great suucess the 723 Bobier seed had for you. Did you fertilize the other plants similarily? Was genetics likely a huge factor? Better patch location, management, soil, etc.?

Doug -
The 2 pumpkins that split on me would have made it over 900 pounds. but still a long way off the big one.
The soil wasn't a whole lot different there, but there were some small differences in each spot. I don't think the location/ sunlight was much of a factor.
When I sprayed the agro-k, I would always start at the 723 plant, and work my way to the other ones IF there was enough. I rarely went back to mix up another sprayer full. So - the 723 got the most spray, and the squash and 1005 got the least.
I think part of the process is a bit of time management based on how each plant is doing at the time. The better it is doing, the more care it gets. The 723 did consistantly well throught the season. Others had me at different levels of optomism at different parts of the season, and got cared for accordingly.

Andy, Thanks as well for your thoughtfulness in helping all growers. It was certainly a pleasure to meet you and at the Niagara weigh-off. You have produced a very good summary that allows all of us to dig a little deeper into our patches.
Many Thanks Good Luck & Good Growing

Andy........in your words how old was the horse poop. Still steaming, somewhat old unknown age or definately years old?
Part #2. :) In inches about how much was that over the nursery or whole patch treated equal?

the horse poop was anywhere between a few months to over a year old when i put it on the patch in the spring. the one place i got it from was just in a pile, so i had tried to pick the better stuff (shoveled it on the truck by hand). the other place i got 2 truckloads from (they loaded me up with a tractor bucket) had it in a very large pile which had apparently been moved or turned a few times not too long before i got there. it was a good mix, and had begun to reheat, as there was steam in spots.
2- I would say on average, i built the "nursery" up about 6 inches above grade. I'm working even now to bring the entire area up to snuff, but the nursery area will always be more important.

Andy, did you test the soil before and after the amendments. If so can you share the results? I am interested most in PH, OM, CEC levels and the relationship they played out for you.

I did not test the soil until about 4 weeks ago. this was partly because i knew what was in my old soil (which i brought with me and used in the mix), and partly because i had the few extra bucks after the weighoffs to send in 3 samples from the patch.
Anyone sending me their soil sample numbers will get to see mine (as well as some other interesting ones in my file), but i'll be posting on that later when i have a little bit more time to devote to that project. I am planning on emailing you an update later tonight when i update your stuff Russ.
but for now: pH:6.8, OM:8.5%, CEC:16.7
