Just another heavy hitter list maybe? If you take that section out of II and III all's you're left with is a pamphlet

I couldn't imagine trying to pick more heavy hitters after the last couple of years. So many possibilities now.

I learned my lesson long ago about staying out of, or contributing to any discussions on this board that pertain to a subject where there are diverse views. However, I will make an exception here. The majority of folks on this board as well as those growers who do not frequent this site, own at least on of Don's books. I would venture that 95% of those who own the books have enjoyed them in some way. If a new grower can't find anything useful in Book II then they need to go back and read it a few hundred more times. Just because a book is not written like a textbook does not make it any less a valuable resource. Each book has brought forth new information that has not been coveredin previous volumes. The reason for volume III and IV coming out so close together, in my eyes, is that methods and innovation has progressed in this game so fast in the past 4 years. The new book is supposed to be on the organic approach. How much do you hear about this type of method today, yet there is nothing of any depth about it in the previous publications. Bottom line is that HTGWCGP is a compendium of valuable information for the new and seasoned grower and a tremendous avenue to expose the public at large as to what we do and how much we put into these orbs of mushy meat. If you don't enjoy them, don't by them, but do not jump to conclusions on the value of existing or forthcoming volumes. Don has given us a tool, a reference guide and a keepsake in every book. When we're all old and sitting in our recliner blowing spitbubbles someday, we can look through the books and reflect on how much fun we had, what great people we have met and be thankful for Don's talent.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR

So. Maine

And I remember just a FEW short years ago when Don came to one of our winter dinner meetings in Mass. to rubb elbows with the New England growers to expand his knowledge of giants to write his first book. What a great move THAT was for all of us.

Interest >>>>> Hobby >>>>> Passion >>>>> Lifestyle

Where does the grower find him/herself on the "interest curve"?

ill will agree ,and have said many times, that the pumpkin growing community at large would never be where it is today had it not been for don l and howard dills books on the subject
before that getting valuable information was like swatting flies in december.
i guess im just all read out ,and would rather grow with what i know, while having some fun sharing my cartoon drawings on the subject

Tom,
Congratulations on a great first year!
I also look forward to another book from Don. If I learn something new, great. If not, I hope there are a lot of pictures:-)

All,
For the record I do have the books and I still read thru them more days than not. My criticism for a certain aspect of the books does not reflect the fact that I find them both useful and enjoyable to read. I will certainly be purchasing IV when it comes out.

The question is, in this day and age, will there be a need for a heavy hitter section in IV considering how many of you all have accomplished so much.

It will be interesting to see how Don approaches it. If he reads these posts, I hope he can appreciate some constructive criticism. If everyone tells you your work is just absolutely perfect, then you'll never get any better. Good thing no one's ever said that about my pumpkin patch :-D

I'm old, sit in a recliner and attempt, to blow spitbubbles. Having difficulty with lack, of spit. Maybe his new book will cover this much needed and neccessary information. :)
