okay, we trade seeds, ship flowers and
whatever else we have to do to get through the day, lol...

now, with all the concern about getting the flowers there
in time to be useful or at all, let's think about this for a minute, keeping in mind that it PROBABLY has been done:
let a few vines early-on grow in little trench-like flower boxes, in some special, maybe lightweight soil substance,
maybe with only the secondary root nodes surrounded with
soil, to save on weight. for shipping. to other growers.
via FedEx. overnight. now, the other grower can PLANT this cutting and have his or her own source of special pollen.
all that vegetation we cut away and...throw away!
i wonder how many rebel plants have survived being thrown in the bushes, thriving unnoticed and never seen again.
probably a few! so, with some foresight, one could
put to good use these secondary vines that will otherwise
be tossed away. i grew the 895.5 Hester in '05.
all fruits either aborted at basketball or got to about 250 and rotted from the blossom end. well, i planted one of those toss-away secondaries in a trench i had made for it,
buried it like a keeper vine, and watered the heck out of it. in about two weeks that vine was as aggresive as the parent and had males and females and....tendrils and so on.
and eventually fruits as well. so, that is my take on what i think is "next" in pumpkin-growing.
oh, yes...there WILL be wilting...lol...have a ball----eric

Indeed you could toss some cuttings through fedex with some special care.

Ditto Eric, I agree, this concept makes a lot of sense.
