there were a few people that had split seeds in their pumpkins this year, i had a bunch out of both 1125 frantz pumpkins. i did germination test on them and had 100% germination. how did other peoples do , and when i run out of good ones would it be ok to send split seeds to fill seed request?

Yes split seeds are good. My personal best came from a split seed all the split seeds I wanted to plant had a 100% germination. As long as they were mature. Rog

I believe the split seeds germinate faster/easier because the moisture can get inside the seed easier. Steve

I agree with everyone, I just wonder how long a split seed would be good for since the air can reach the cots inside. Does it have a shorter life span in youre collection?

my guess is that lifespan is similar or the same, but the seed would be more succeptible to temperature and moisture changes during storage.
i hat a LOT of split seeds this year compared to other years.

What do you think about dipping a seed in wax to seal it from too much moisture change? Of course you'd have to file it well at planting time. I'm guessing it would extend life, especially of splits. . .just guessing.

I put a little piece of scotch tape on mine to close the crack back shut. I think they will last a good while.

Stored at ideal humidity cracked seed would last almost as long as solid jacketed seeds. But none of us is really that anal.....LOL....or are we?
I'll bet someone has a 50* F humidor set at 70% for the very best seeds.

Dave is right. Cracked seeds should be planted first & the solid shells saved for achival purposes.

Dip in wax.... how hot would that be? I do not plan on cooking my seed with splits.

My bet for that person would be Jack Larue. Any takers?
