Would like to see pictures of either one (being that I grow mostly for color and shape). Looks like AGGC is no longer taking new members. I know they frequently have pictures.

If you join the GVGO you get access to aggc. It was the best 20 bucks ever spent. There is a picture of the 670 but I can't copy and paste it. It looks a lot like the 603 as far as shape and color.

more interesting than the 603 itself, are the looks of it's progeny. Have a look at these 4 consecutive entries, in Mark's diary:

Every pumpkin from the 603 I've ever seen looks like these. I'm having a hard time finding a 603 to grow right now.

Is the 670 also from the 846 Calai?

The 670 Daigle is a 810 Dill x 1230 Daletas. I think the 869.5 Calai has produced more consistent round and orange fruit than the 846. The 603 has produced some beauties.

the 1230 is 705 Stelts x 846 Calai, so the 670 does have some 846 in it.

What is the cross that created the 603 Muller?

845nesbit X self. Not many 603s left. Too bad as it produces some nice ones.

I am hoping the selfed seeds from all the 603s will produce nice ones also. Mark and I had very low seed counts this year maybe because of the pollination problems we both had. I only had 40-50 seeds from both of my 603s. Mark also grew a 650 Muller two years ago from the 603. It was maybe the nicest one of all. It was crossed with a 1200+ pumpkin that I can't remember the name of. I've never heard of someone planting it though so I don't know what color it produces. I have an email into Mark as I type. I'm sure someone grew it.

His 650 was grown in 2004, maybe no one has grown it yet, it was a 603 x 1458 Whittier

Steve, thanks for the plug. We offer limited access to the AGGC to all our members. It will give you Progeny & hierarchy trees, pictures and more. You'll also get a great selection of seeds and 3 great newsletters per year. Email me if your interested.

PA: You are correct, the 869.5 Calai progeny has been more consistently orange and round than the 846 Calai progeny. I also agree with Jeff that the Muller 650 '04 is even more beautiful than the Muller 603 '03.

I have a 603 that I'm considering growing next year, I was thinking about crossing it with the 1233.5 Reiss in order get some nice orange producers for progeny... What do you think about this cross, is there any other pollinator that would do better?

Oliver, I'm sure a lot of people would like to see that cross. Early dibs on seeds!

Oliver, That soounds like a fine cross. Many good options for a pollinator. The 1008.4 Reiss would be also be a good cross IMO.
