I'm wondering if we can come up with an approximate age of the A.G. pumpkin, where it has achieved 50% of it's final weight. I realize different climates, genetics, etc. will affect this. I did a quick check on a few pumpkins, based on the dairies here, and this is what I came up with(if I haven't made any mathematical mistakes):
1233.5 Reiss hit 50% at about day 37 1125 Frantz hit 50% at about day 33 1083 Frantz hit 50% at about day 37 678.5 Wallace(mine) hit 50% at about day 32
I'm not taking into acount % heavy/light. If you can add to these numbers, I think it would be interesting. Thanks.

Very interesting, both my 591 and my 593 were at 50% at 33 and 35 days.

I hope everyone notices that these growers are all East of the Mississippi!

Good point Stan. I'm guessing those pumpkins grown on the west coast, take a little longer on avg. to hit the 50% mark.

This is a very interesting approach.
Maybe we should discount those pumpkins that are "harvested early for an early weighoff", such as state fairs, etc., as usually these aren't finished growing when they get their final weight.
If there are regional differences, that would be interesting to examine as well...

Yes very interesting. I went back and looked at info for my 1114 to see where it fit in because it was such a slow starter I didnt think it would conform to what looks like a day 35 avg for estimating final weight. It still managed in 37 days to my surprise. I would like to see more posts on this topic. The only problem I see with using this as a guideline is that in the mid 30 days of age, pumpkins (mine anyhow) are in their peak growth which can be 30 - 40 lbs a day. If you estimated it off day 35 and it actually was 1/2 way at day 30 then your estimate could be off easily by a couple hundred pounds. Bery good topic and looks like you may be on to something! Mike

The 1061,7 Gustavsson hit 50% at day 33, and splited at day 44, and stoped growing at day 59. Here you can see the growth chart: http://www.geocities.com/skurupsborren/growth-chart-1061-gustavsson It would also be interesting to know how many days your pumpkins are growing.
