Winter sure is boring right now so I thought I would ask what people plan on planting next year, And if any body has new ideas our plans for their patch. I'm always looking for new info so enlighten me.

1068 Wallace = 400 sq. ft.
552 Sherwood* = 400 sq. ft.
1058 Houghton = 200 sq. ft.
720.6 Noel = 200 sq. ft.
Also 2-3 pollinators. Much smaller plants and much better fungicide program this year. I beleive that it is possible in less than 200 sq. ft. AleX Noel.

I was thinking of asking the same thing Alex.
Of course I'm free to cange my mind on these choices LOL.

3 Competition plants:
1370 Rose 03
940 Mombert 00
and either the 710.5 Companion 04 or 1008.4 Reiss 05.

I may plant a couple others(snake vines) for orange genetic crosses, such as the 850 Wallace 00 and the 867 Mombert 00.

I always have lots of ideas, here are the three major projects im working on.

My first thought is to enhance my watering system to include proper heat, storage and depletion of chlorine. I also hope to use the Dosatron regularly to modify the town's water PH to acceptable levels.

I am striving lower the Ph of my patches to a target range of 6.5. I believe that high organic matter soil ties up Calcium and Magnesium. I have spent countless hours pouring over test results and researching for the causes of split pumpkin problems. Some information suggests a lower PH level is required on soils above 10% OM. I will hold the line at 6.5 for now. In addition I will strive to lay down a mulch cover of leaves or grass clippings to maintain consistent soil moisture levels. This should get the problems under control.

Clones, I was moderately successful last year with a fast growing clone. I hope to continue this program into the spring and maybe even try a grafted pumpsquash or two. Many research articles confirm the use of clones and grafts to increase yields.

Hard to believe that today is only the start of winter. But
looking at it another way, the days get longer from here on out.

5 plants:

500 Beauchemin - inbred 898, proven!
1032 Dieffenbaugher - inbred 1097
1084 Langevin - (1068 X 1097)
981 Zunino - awesome beautiful orange
597 Warren (691 Beauchemin X 981 Zunino) big thick walls crossed with beautiful orange

I hope to do at least these crosses:

500 X 1032
1032 X 1084
1084 X 1032

Of course, people can and do loose money, er, things can
change. If I get the Reiss seed, that will go in the mix
somewhere.

Regards, Cliff (everything is melting today!!!)

ha ha ha ha... I've been downhill skiing once in my life...

Pretty odd for being from Utah and Idaho... I nearly lost a
few limbs. Had purple bruises for weeks. Since that time, I'm
extra cautious in everything I do, riding a bike, driving on
ice, etc.

This is that heavy ranch style fence called a "buck fence"...

=X=X=X=X=X=X=X=

I'm not sure how to draw myself crashing into it...

Why do they have this anywhere near a ski area???

I'm doing only 3 plants in '06
The 848* MacKenzie is a definite.
The 1127 Glasier is a maybe.......hard to ignore..... same cross as the 1068 Wallace and 1133.4 Demers.........I don't have the Wallce or Demers so the 1127 is starting to look pretty good to me.
My third spot still open.......(convince me) !

geo, how did you decide between the 1127 Glasier (845 X 898)and the 992.5 Glasier (898 X 845)? I'm growing one but not sure which.

brand spankin new 125 ft x 65 ft patch developed this fall.
all made possible via team "sngpg" .
between the guys , some heavy excavating and grading, truck loads of composted chicken and cow manure, some lime sprinkled on, a well dug and installed, plowing and harrowing, and some beers and pizza thrown in, we completed the land clearing and patch instalation in two weekends
( one day before the first heavy snowfall and deep freeze)
so the question was what are we planting?
ten plants total
3 1068, 2 500, 1 1173, 1 1228, 1 848 (green),1 brooks bosworth cross ( the player to be named later )and one pollinator yet to be determined.

1225 Jutras, 735 Pukos, 1097 Beachy, 742 Hatfield, and one more cant decide yet. also im growing 2 genetics plants crossing two long time selfed seeds.

Netherlands

1287 Van Kooten 05 (1142 Van Kooten x 1097.5 Beachy)
1095 M. Wallace 05 (1367.5 Rose x self)
793 Olsen 05* (471 Beachy* x self)
621 Zuhlke 05 (1101 Northrup x self)
591 Privitera 05 (1370 Rose x 723 Bobier)
199 Ornskov 05 (670 Daigle x self)

I cannot afford the real ones and am happy to work with unproven seeds with good genetics. Someone has to prove them.

I will be using a new patch in 2006 (81 x 33 ft) and for the first time a hoop house (for the 1287). The 1287 will be big or burst (but hopefully not wilt).

The soil in the Netherlands should grow some great pumpkins I can remember how fertile it looked when I was there several years ago (and no shortage of manure or water either).
