Ok, here's a little more food for thought, and digestion, during these merry days. I guess, in a nutshell, my question goes something like this...WHEN WE ASK A QUESTION HERE ON BP, DO WE LIKE/WANT FACTUAL RESPONSES OR OPINIONS? Now quite obviously, there are times when opinions may be all that is available. Just as there are times when the facts are readily known by many, Opinions allow more of us to jump in and respond/participate, and facts help us solve certain unknowns we may have. Opinions provide lively banter between well meaning contributers, while factual answers tend to be more dry and end the posts earlier. Which are we seeking when we post a question? How do we know the difference when we read it? Should only a select few be allowed to provide the response/answer, OR, should newbies and veterans alike, cloud the waters with opinions? Maybe, you might even look at this as a question between "entertainment vs. education"? What are your opinions? Factual responses only please! BF Have fun...

Good question. What about those who consider their opinions to be facts? Andddddd. . .It is a fact that all pumpkins are squash, but we need several opininos to decide if a pumpkin is not a squash. . . see, I'm already confused. . .

I think it is mainly about sharing the experiences and ideas that we all have. That way we can learn from other's successes and failures. As far as accepting someone's answer to a specific question, it is a matter developing a sense of who is knowledgable in that particular area...or weeding through the responses to find some sort of a consensus.

This would depend on the question. Some subjects are subjective with no definitive answer. These are entitled to an opinion.
Other questions can be answered factually with the help of our own field observations or by borrowing peer reviewed & published scientific documents.
In other words the genetics board has more opnions & fewer facts. The pest & disease board has more facts than opinions.
In my opinion of course. LOL

The question itself is going to determine whether the resposes are fact or opinion.
What is the part number of this carburetor? Is my carburetor pretty?

Some of the stuff on here, a lot of it, is neither fact, fantasy or opinion. It is feel good, how ya doin, what's for supper kind of stuff. And that's okay. Here and there something of use to the very serious growers pops up thereby making the other stuff okay. If all we had here were facts, the thread would die a quick death.

amen lubadub,
i enjoy going on bp for the entertainment value. my own. lol if a question requires a honest answer or opinion then i like to help out. on the other hand i dont honestly think theres any real secrets to our hobby. some of us may know a bit more than the others but then theres always someone that knows a lot more than me. so i get informational value also.
mainly i use this message board cause its a great place where people with a common interest can exchange info and mix in some humor along with there advise or opinion.
i never met a pumpkin grower i did not like. even the ones with a chip on their shoulder.

If i post a question, i like to think i can get a factual and precise answer and will take notice of that over comments about why the question is being asked and any banter other than the factual answer to the question i have asked. Once i am satisfied that i have a factual answer to my question all subsequent replies are taken as oppinions and are welcomed as much as the facts.
Confusing. I hope so.
Regards Mike
