I have just sent Jim Gatewood the new and updated Top Ten list of Pennsylvania pumpkins. With 4 new pumpkins in the top ten from this year(1469, 1332, 1238.5, and 1131.5) it looks as though Pennsylvania is the new leader in average, passing New Hampshire by a fraction. Our average is 1240.65 pounds, with their average at 1240.22.
The website for the states and providences records for top ten average can be found at the wonderful website, http://www.ipga.ws/ .
Here is the new list, with 2 newcomers to the top 10 for Pennsylvania - Dave Stelts and Heidi Brunst.
1. 1469 Larry Checkon - Northern Cambria, PA (2005 PGPGA, Altoona) 2. 1354 Larry Checkon - Northern Cambria, PA (2004 PGPGA, Altoona) 3. 1332 Quinn Werner - Saegerstown, PA (2005 Canby, OH) 4. 1242 Larry Checkon - Northern Cambria (2003 PGPGA, Altoona) 5. 1238.5 Heidi Brunst - Sunbury, PA (2005 Canby, OH) 6. 1187.5 Quinn Werner - Saegerstown, PA (2004 Canby, OH) 7. 1162 Gerry Checkon - Northern Cambria, PA (2003 PGPGA, Altoona) 8. 1157 Quinn Werner - Saegerstown, PA (2003 Canby, OH) 9. 1133.5 Dave Stelts - PA (2005 Canby, OH) 10. 1131 Gerry Checkon - Northern Cambria, PA (1999 PGPGA, Altoona)
Two notes of interest, adding Dave Stelts to Pennsylvania will be a big plus in future years, and the former world record from 1999 - the 1131 fruit by Gerry Checkon - dropping to a lowly tenth in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania shows how far we have come as a growing conglomerate. Congrats to all on the list and those not on the list who keep improving their fruit sizes each year!

Pennsylvania is a pretty wide state though not as wide as Nebraska. The west side of PA is closer to the weighoff site in Ohio than it is the one in central PA and so some PA growers weigh in Ohio. Marv
