I'll be, and have seen many people having good luck with that pre staked, roll up, black conservation fence that they put in front of hay bales at construction sites where dust is an issue. 3' X 100' at Home Depot. AleX Noel.

I've found where I can get used pallets for $1.00 each. So I've turned them into compost bins... take four of them and arrange them into a square. Secure them with wire, or blocks of scrap wood and screws.
Now take three more pallets and "add on" to the first... Now you have two bins. Keep adding. Of course, I've located these so that I can take advantage of them as a bit of a wind break in addition to their compost making utility. Regards, Cliff

I use the plastic "snow fence". It's the stuff they put up to make snow drifts in the winter. It does't completly block the wind but it slow it down enough to prevent much of the damage. I also put a 6' wide weed barrier fabric along the top of an 8' wire fence that I put up to stop the deer. This worked well but the wind eventually tears it down.

I built a 600 ft windfence on west side of patch this last summer.Consist of 10 ft 4x4's every 8 ft burried 3 ft in ground and concreted in,then i used hemlock lumber to build the rest used 4 2x4's inbetween 4x4's then 1x8x8's spaced 3 inches apart did lot of research last winter on proper spacing and that what i came up with.I think it said you want 25 to 33 percent openings and should never make a solid wind fence as the wind will be worce on back side. Also said you will get excellent protection 8 times your hight so my patch is 55 ft wide so i'm well protected.Jerry

Thanks for the ideas guys. Right now I'm leaning towards steel posts pounded into the ground with snow fence, then puting the conservation fence on the windward side of the snow fence to help support it. Hopefully this will get me a couple years of use and will be fairly easy to remove. After the spring winds die down I may take down the conservation fence and leave the snow fence up. Thanks again, Kevin.
