heres how you do it
first, grow seeds that have either proven themselves or have a certain genetic trait thats in either that seed or its parentage . produce weights desirable to others.
second, grow your own home grown seed stock.
third, get as many good growers in your organization to plant your seed ( kiss their ass if you need to ) lol.
fourth, hope and pray that a couple people in your group whether it be yourself, or fellow club members, hits it big.
lastly, reward those that helped prove your seed by giving them first choice for seeds until the reserve is down to a personal level.
none of the so called hot seeds would have ever come to pass if a majority of experienced growers did not get behind them.
every club has the potential to produce their own hot seeds, if they would only learn to work together.
with out the likes of steve sperry, joe jutras, fred macari, pete rondeau, john nicholas, ron and myself pulling together behind the 1068 i doubt if its ranking would be anywhere near its present spot on the all time pumpkin lists
i will go our on a limb and state from the next group of hot seeds at least one ,possibly two, will come from the sngpg group. ps- ill give everone a hint that received a 1173 macari ( its one of the two in my opinion )
thanks pap

Pap, if you do all those things, why haven't you grown any hot seeds? What's this 1068 seed too, never heard of it. I think you must have meant 720.6 Noel?! LOL! Seriously now, I'd say Dick Wallace knows a thing or 2 about this subject, SO LISTEN UP! AleX Noel.
P.S. That 720.6 one, it's 1068 X 1104.5!

Or simply hire Dick Wallace (AKA "the Godfather") as your seed's personal Public Relations firm.

vine at the end of the day its still only a pumpkin or in this case a seed.
if you had told me even a few years back that one friggin seed would sell at auction , much less selling some at over $400.00 id have said you were nuts. now, its a way for people with deep pockets to get a seed they really want, while at the same time allows clubs to benefit from their growers success.
ill use our seed drive and membership promo of last month as an example.
we sold out in four days. had it not been for our clubs successful run this year we would need to give them away. instead we were able to put some good dollars in our fund for the 2006 season, while at the same time we can be reasonably sure that our clubs seeds will get planted.
a club needs to get maximum exposure while the opportunity presents itself. cause right around the corner is the next hot seed.

one of the reasons we restructured the club last year and renamed ourselves southern new england giant pumpkin growers was so people from all over the new england area would attend. no one wants to butt heads every year with the same growers.we want new faces from new places.we welcome the competition. we are looking into a loyds of london 25,000 to 50,000 dollar bonus prize to the person who brings the first 1,600 lb pumpkin to our sngpg weigh off. hopefully we can get a 1600 lb policy for around a grand. a policy for the first 1,500 is to attainable now in the eyes of these policy holders therefore the cost is excessive. we are hoping for the best .stay tuned. dick

so that's why the 1173 Macari has been talked about so much lately...
one other thing you forgot to mention Dick... Location ... Location ... Location... it's kind of a given for you but for many of us it is not... where we live restricts our potential so that handicaps us some. generally people are less inclined to plant seeds that are not from heavy fruit... but there are exceptions... 670 Daigle comes to mind. but you are right getting people to grow a seed by networking works.
