I was talking to the president of GVGO (Giant Vegetable Growers of Ontario) the other day and he informs me that the membership will soon pass the 100 member mark. Not too shabby for a club that's only 9 months old. I was wondering about membership numbers of other groups out there. Who's the biggest group out there? Smallest? Best? (Well second best ;0) )

From what I hear they are also the best. Of course I'm showing a little bit of favoritism.

VGVGA: Vermont Giant Vegetable Growers Association had 24 last year, I bet we will do better this year, in 2004 I don't even think we had 1/2 that. We have been tring hard to get the word out to Vermonters that we do exist and our weigh off audience has boomed! We also have a few out of staters that have joined. We have a web site: http://vermontgiants.tripod.com/ and also have a Silent Auction going on till Sunday, this has gone real well so far, it is our first ever. Gotta thank All you Growers and BP.cpm for all the help you have given VGVGA! Have a good one!!! Erin Doe "Doeski"

The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin growers has over 400 dues paying members, the true test of a giant pumpkin growing group is how many show up on weigh-off day. Count the number of participating members at your clubs main weigh-off and you will have a good idea how big your club really is.

Hey there.........not only how many but the size, of fruit enters into the considerations. On the Weigh-Off Day if it were not, for Altoona ballancing the situation a bit the total weight, on the North Eastern edge, of Ohio, might sink that land mass into the Ohio River. As it is the two events only raise the water level a few inches.

The GVGO is at 99 members as of today. I'm expecting 2 or 3 more in the next week, so that will push us over the 100 member mark. This is more than I expected when we started this at last year's Niagara Seminar. There is still more than 50 growers from Ontario that haven't joined our group. We hope that they will join us soon. We have great benefits (great seed giveaway, newsletters, limited access to the AGGC, free grower's seminars & patch tours, plus others) to share with all who join us. It's now one of the biggest (if not the biggest) grower's club in Canada. Check out our website at www.gvgo.ca for more info. A special thanks to all of the growers that have helped make us a success. We really appreciate your support.
