Not only do we (usually) have very limited space, but it is quite hard to find a lot of the things you country boys and girls can get, so please list any ideas you might have for us city slickers to get a hold of some of the stuff for a successful growing season. Here are a few of the things I found, I am sure I paid way too much for, but, the only alternative is to drive an hour or more round trip, and $12.00 in gas
31 oz Black strap molasses $5 whole paycheck--er foods
corn meal .55 cent lb, whole foods

AAAHHH. Don't pay that on the mollasses. For the price you can find a 5 gallon bucket on 12$ of gas it's well worth it! Yours is 20$ a gal., 100$ for 5 gal. 12$ gas + 13$ for 5 gal. bucket (around here anyway) = 25$. An idea is: there have to be about as million coffee shops in cities, give a trash barrel to them every day and they'll fill it for ya! AleX Noel.

I pay $0.20/lb at the local feed mill for molasses. Does your city offer leaf pick up? If I lived inside the city limits here they would deliver and dump for free. Since I only live four miles outside I have to go and load and dump the leaves myself. I even said I would pay up to $50 for a load. They said that it was not the money but the extra time involed.

The city (here)will not give you anything they pick up, in fact, you can be prosecuted for collecting anything that has even been set aside for their pick up. Its covered under the "its mine mine mine" law.

Gary I know the feeling of trying to obtain the Black Strap & Corn Meal. I made calls to several feed mills to get Black Strap and each time i was told 'the person you need to talk to is not here right now, what is your Phone number and they will call back. Did i get a call back, no, of course not. I called again and the same thing all over again, and again, and again, and again i just gave up and found i can get Black Strap from the health food store but in 1 lb jars.
I had more luck with the Corn Meal and found a Maize processing plant, many miles away, and spoke to the actual General Manager of the plant who personally delivered a 50 Lb bag of Maize Meal to me. If i require any in the future i will have to go and pick it up, 160 miles away but at least i know i can get it.
Regards Mike

The edge, of the citys, in America are full of horse poop! Do Yellow Pages for Horse Academys or Riding Academys. Do you have a Mounted Police service? Follow those horses home. New York City gardeners can get horse poop right in Downtown Manhatten. Coffee grounds are almost equal to the value of manure in nitrogen. Coffee grounds have far less mineral content. Leaves will cover the difference. Lots of coffee grounds, leaves and a cover crop will equal the use of manures.
